Progressive Developments in Accessibility Education
- Until recently, no formal accessibility education or training for software engineers/designers
- Limited scope of accessibility courses/training here and there
- Individual group/departmental training
- Gaining visibility and credibility at local and regional conferences (e.g., SLATE, Midwest Educause, HighEdWeb)
- Traveling to other schools in the Midwest (e.g., Purdue, MSU, UMN, Madison, Iowa)
- On-site training with software vendors (BB, Elsevier, D2L, Ex Libris, etc.)
- Higher Ed/Industry creating need for accessibility professionals (e.g., Panopto, Workday, Zoom, ServiceNow, etc.)
- Increasing demand for accessibility professionals made it easier to offer more stuctured accessibility training
- Accessibility is now becoming a special subject for Computer Science and Engineering students
