Lecture Notes

STIs are the most common infectious diseases reported in the United States. There are two primary types of STIs: bacterial and viral. Bacterial STIs are often curable and viral STIs are not curable but treatable. More than 25 STIs can be passed from person to person through sexual activities, but there are also other routes of transmission including infected blood in injecting drug equipment and from an infected mother to her child, known as perinatal transmission.
